A lot can happen in five years. It's been five years since Charly Bliss last released an album and that particular block of years was an intense ride for the band. They return with new album FOREVER in August and have just released third single 'Waiting For You'. We got Niamh Rowley to take a listen and she found a band grateful to be back in the spotlight.

----------------------------------------------------------

The musical Gen Z conundrum continues to prove arduous to navigate. Living in a generation with a constant need to consume new sounds and content can prove difficult - not just up and coming bands,  but also those already standing in high stead - to create something that people are going to adore. However, with that being said, Brooklyn based four-piece Charly Bliss could be onto something by dropping their  new single 'Waiting for You'.

The track has a groovy beat and a slight electronic feel to it that makes for an automatic fun, energetic performance and positively an even bigger live show. With some rather entrancing vocals included,  singer Eva Hendricks has such a smooth quality about her that it just makes it an immediate on repeat track for me. It’s such an ear-worm you will not be able to get it out once it’s in your head; especially that drum beat that makes me want to dance with reckless adandon.  Sharing that the song has elements of how they felt learning to navigate through the pandemic- at a time they couldn’t see one another or play shows for those they loved - gives it such a poignant, atmospheric feel. Set to do extremely well in an indie/bedroom pop crowd, Charly Bliss has a bright future ahead.

‘Waiting for You’ is the third single to be dropped off the 12-track album FOREVER set for release on August 16th. The previously released tracks entitled ‘Calling You Out’ and ‘Nineteen’ give an angst pop feel about them that send me back to songs I listened to and loved in my own early 2000’s childhood. Carrying on with the electronic feel, you must give props to the band for creating melodies so catchy you cannot ignore them. Sharing heartfelt lyrics along the way that are certain to hit home hard for some, I personally can picture ‘Nineteen’ being such a stunning fan to artist live moment.

But whilst it’s all well and good, loving the music and what it’s about it can sometimes help to learn a little more about the band too. I fear we far too often forget there’s faces behind the music and this group is not one you want to do that for.  Hendricks is joined in the band by brother Sam on drums, Spencer Fox on guitar and Dan Shure on the bass. Having formed over half a decade ago and a history that runs deeper than most, it’s no secret to see this band’s love and chemistry baring significant fruit.

Hendricks has also clarified the meaning behind 'Waiting For You', calling it:

"A love song for my bandmates. While I was separated from Sam, Spencer, & Dan during the pandemic, I remember watching videos of us playing shows and thinking “How could I have taken this for granted?” I couldn’t see how beautiful everything really was and how lucky we were. It was agonizing to be apart for that long but helpful, because I don’t think I’ll ever let myself forget that again."

Charly Bliss is set out to tour North America and appear in London for a one-off show at Pitchfork 2024. So, if this track has your toe-tapping and needs met then I strongly suggest you grab yourself a ticket to this show! For a band soon to be high in demand,  it’s not an opportunity you'll want to miss.
