Let's get this straight once and for all; December is not a great time for trying to find new music. It's almost as if a state of hibernataion engulfs the industry as the long hours of darkness take their toll and preparation for the festive season go into overdrive. It's also bloody freezing; -5 degrees, you havin' a laugh?! In such climates, moody Indie Rock bands take time to reflect and find inspiration, Singer Songwriters strum the same pattern as they look for that hoodie with the holes in to keep mildy warm and writers do that thing where they list all their favourites from the last 11 months ignoring the current.

As if these things needed anymore encouragement, Spotify brings out it's annual Wrapped spectacular, so we can see what we've been listening to all year and go back to listen to it all over again. Yep, you've got to be made of different stuff entirely to be releasing new material this time of year. However, if you're willing to go hunting you'll find some great tracks trying their luck in the barren landscape of December.

A band very much willing to brave this frosty terrain are Huw & The Greater Good and their new single 'Dopamine' proves that their can be some vibrancy this time of year after all. The Indie-Pop risers have seen a wave of support in 2023, with BBC Radio Wales, Radio X and XS Manchester all sold on their buoyant sound.  The band were formed in 2020 and brought together by a love of bands like The War on Drugs, Arcade Fire and The Black Keys. Fronted by the charasmatic, soulful tones of lead singer Huw Eddy, their live show has been lauded as a powerful and commanding experience that demands the audience throw away their inhibitions.

The band write songs with the them of self discovery, learning from mistakes and adapting to an ever-changing world at their core and 'Dopamine' continues those  work within those themes.

The new single has been produced by Jamie Lockhart (Greenmount Studies)  and showcases the band's ability to craft melodic hooks that lead you into their infectious world. The band don't mess about on 'Dopamine'; the track builds with an understated verse before exploding into an undoubted earworm of a chorus with fuzzy guitars playing off the disco-tinged rhythm section to illuminating effect. It captures some of the elements of their influences perfectly whilst also leaning on a love of 70s' rock and soul.

The band looked to create an explosion of the senses on 'Dopamine' saying:

“We wanted to capture the full throttle and intoxicating sensory overload we all face in today’s world. Dopamine is about the addictive and obsessive tendencies we slip into and we wanted to paint that picture in a joyful but unnerving/anxiety fueled setting”
