Yorkshire indie rockers Bedroom High Club have been quietly building up a solid fanbase on the back of some thrilling adrenaline-fueled singles and live performances. Niamh Rowley took a listen to their new E.P and gave us these thoughts.

Emerging onto the music scene can sometimes prove difficult, especially when coming from a smaller city. However, that did not put a halt to the sheer enthusiasm and hard work ethic of Barnsley local's Bedroom High Club, who are looking to take the indie/rock scene by storm with their brand-new EP Above the Belt. Comprising of five tracks in total, the four-piece experiment with a mixture of electric and rock style beats, drawing upon inspiration from music icons such as The Strokes

With festival season slowly beginning to creep up, the lads are currently standing in excellent shape to provide a selection of crowd pleasers and energetic tunes. Their sets will not go unnoticed and certainly not unappreciated. Having previously gained recognition from BBC Radio 1, it’s sure that the only way is up for these boys. So, join me on my deep dive into the individual tracks to see what they're all about.

With ‘Courtesy’ and ‘What You Did’ being released as singles prior to the EP’s release we got an idea of what was to come whilst eagerly anticipating its arrival in entirety. Building relationships with fans through touring and social media accounts leading up to the release proves just how humble and down to earth these lads are.

Both pre-released tracks differ in aesthetics with ‘Courtesy’ being quite smooth, seamlessly blending the vocals and melody together before leading into a pent-up scream vocal style towards the end of the track. It simultaneously provided excitement and enthusiasm which is a welcome and unexpected combination. ‘What You Did’ on the other hand, remains chilled and easy flowing throughout. It carries a funky electronic sound over the course of the song with a deep focus on the guitars involved. It stays true to the indie rock sound whilst testing new waters with differing backing tracks/effects.

Moving onto ‘Hard Talk’, the newest named single on the EP. It’s upbeat, jumpy and all-round providing me with good vibes - all the best elements needed to create an incredible song. There’s no denying this particular track is going up in the music world and most definitely taking the boys along with it. It gives off the energy of something people angrily scream along to whilst they're on a late-night drive to rid themselves of the awkward, confusing feelings love leaves us to deal with. We've all been there, right?

‘We Don’t Talk’ takes a slightly darker almost heavier turn for the EP and it does not disappoint. Providing a variety in the sound, it feeds us with something we may not have originally anticipated. Feeling like it could be on a movie score - with an intense melody and punchy lyrics - you can’t help but be drawn into it. It feels as though they have something rather powerful to say, and this is the track they’ve chosen to announce it through. I find myself coming back to this song continuously in search of something I might have missed in the first couple of listens; it’s actually rather moreish.

Ending the EP on ‘She Makes It’ is a satisfying conclusion. This particular track is fueled by what I envision the reaction of a live crowd to be. It’s easily likeable with its trippy vocals and catchy chorus. It ends the EP on an ultimate high, with passion, energy and a clear love for what they do. 100% recommend giving this hearty album a listen to as it works for any occasion and is a definite winner across the board.
