Like many of the world's great cities, Berlin has it's claim as a place that inspiries all kinds of artistry; a concrete muse enshrined with history both horrifically dark and elegantly beautiful. Perhaps unlike it's global rivals like London, New York and Paris - that share the same sense of poetic duality - Berlin is the most unique of all of them.

With the global onslaught of Rock n' Roll just a generation after the end of World War II, it's easy to forget that the city was effectively - and symbolically - split in two by this point and would be almost until the end of the 20th Century. Berlin became a melting pot of ideas that attracted deep thinkers. philosphers and musicians alike. It's little wonder that during these years, complex and colourful characters like David Bowie and Iggy Pop were keen to move to Berlin to find an extra edge to their work and remove themselves from the temptations that had began to take their toll elsewhere.

LOBSTERBOMB could only come from Berlin. A vibrant and creative band bursting with colour that attracts your eye immediately; not only do they look fantastic, but they have the tunes to back it up. The Glam Punk trio have even gained the attention of Duran Duran's Simon Le Bon who has played them on his U.S based radio show, saying:
"I have a bit of an obsession with a band from Germany called LOBSTERBOMB, I think they are magnificent!"
The band - comprising of Nico Rosch, Vik Chi and Crayon Jones - released their debut album Look Out via Duchess Box Records this week and we got them to
send us a guide to what you can expect from this explosive album.

1) I Love This Song

We wanted to start the album with a bang. A short and sharp one about the joy that the intial recognition of a song you love can bring. No matter what bad stuff is going on in your life. music you love can always improve the mood.

2) Lifeline

A lot of our songs are written with live performance in mind and we always want to capture that energy in the recorded version. 'Lifeline' was definitely designed as a banger for people to jump around to.

3) What About Never

We were trying to come up with a Halloween song, and we thought "What is more scary than creepy guys cat-calling and then following you home?" There is a lot defiant anger in this song; things have to change. Enough is enough.

4) Gravitation

At some point during the making of the album we started to expand our original sound, incorperating some icy synths and leaning more in a gothy/post-punk direction. This was one of the results of that shift in sound; perhaps the result of the long, dark Berlin winter.

5) Run

'Run' is about growth in the face of adversity. A reminder that step-by-step, things can get better over time. We also recorded a version of the song in German - 'Frei' - that was released as a stand-alone single. It was interesting for us how translating a song slightly changes the tone and how it can be intepreted by the listener.

6) Let's Go Home

A song for introverts and those who struggle with social aniexty. 'Let's Go Home' is about being at a party, surrounded by people, but really wishing you were at home with your cats.

7) Starting Over

Side two of the L.P starts with a slong about new beginnings, it seemed the fitting choice. There is a tension and release to the song that matches the lyrical themes of being freed from old ways.

8) Dragonfly

Another track with a darker vibe. Lyrically, it's about being frustrated by someone who runs away from uncomfortable situations, at some point the emotional neglect weighs heavy. Nothing gets resolved and the happy ending doesn't arrive.

9) Lovebomb

A cute track with a bittersweet story about a summer romance that was destined to fail despite seeming perfect at the time. But with time comes perspective and the happy memories persist with a healthy dose of lessons-learned.

10) Hitting The Wall

This is one of the earliest songs we wrote. It's about when you can't get through to someone no matter how much you try and you reach that point where you just have to give up.

11) Oh Boi

A charming song with a bit of a country influence. 'Oh Boi' is about falling in love, when everything is new and unpredictable. It captures the pure sense, raw emotion, joy and freedom you feel during those early, formative days of getting to know someone. It's about jumping in full-heartedly and getting caught up in the idea of the situation and the other person.

12) No No No

This track has been the final song in our live sets for a while and always has people jumping around, so it had to be the album closer! It's about not bending to people who feel entitled to your attention just because of their status. A defiant end.
